Warner, Block, & Normoyle Lead Winners At The Ridge On Wild Night In October

October 15, 2017 (Fultonville, NY) – Saturday night marked round one of the fall series at the fastest ¼ mile on dirt, which saw some familiar faces land in victory lane at The Ridge. Rocky Warner, Mike Block, Jim Normoyle Sr., PJ Bleau, Dan Ballard, Matthew Backus, Rob Sanford, David Charczuk, Eric Bonnie, and Ron Tollner were all victorious Saturday night.

Crate Modified action got started with a pair of heavy hitters on the front row with multi-time Albany Saratoga track champion Jeremy Pitts and Central New York powerhouse Tyler Thompson leading the field to the green flag. Pitts would take the early lead leaving Thompson to fend off KOD/DIRTcar East tour winner David Schilling, two-time Nationals champion Tim Hartman Jr., and Sportsman Mega star Rocky Warner.

An early race caution slowed the field and on the ensuing restart Thompson powered into the lead with Pitts and Hartman following closely behind. Dave Constantino was making his way forward battling with the 00 of Lou Torres for position inside the top five as well.

Late in the race a caution again slowed the field on lap 23 after inadvertent contact between Pitts and Thompson while racing for the lead ended with Thompson against the turn two wall and Pitts at the tail of the field. Rocky Warner was coming fast, but now his job was that much easier as the multi-time champion and all-time feature win leader in Sportsman Modified at Glen Ridge cruised home to another victory. He was followed by David Schilling, Dave Constantino, Tim Hartman Jr., and Lou Torres rounding out the top five.

Limited Sportsman action saw a block party, as Mike Block wheeling his new Troyer chassis took the lead on lap two and never looked back. Bill August raced his way into the runner up spot, while track newcomer Hunter Lapp raced to a 3rd place finish. Scott Flanders and Nikki Ouelette rounded out the top five.

Pro Stocks were out in full force with 17 drivers making the trip to ‘The Ridge’ on Saturday night. Ron Delease and Nick Stone led the field to the green flag with the manimal Nick Stone taking the early lead.

The 2017 Glen Ridge Pro Stock track champion Luke Horning would soon move into the runner up spot and begin challenging Stone for the lead. While that was happening up front, fans were entertained by Frank ‘Wild’ Twing three wide on the high side moving through the field after starting 13th on the grid.

Jim Normoyle Sr. was moving forward and found himself running third, however the race would change drastically late in the event. After Horning and Stone exchanged shots, Horning found himself in the pits changing a flat and Stone at the tail.

Normoyle would cruise home to the win from there followed by Justin Knight, Al Christiana, Justin White from 12th, and Ivan Joslin roudning out the top five.

4 Cylinder Mini Stock action saw another Damon Anderson and PJ Bleau showdown take place. Colby Shepler would lead early until mid way through the 15-lap feature when PJ Bleau came knocking. He’d take the lead, but Anderson would move into second and begin to challenge. Bleau would fight off all challenges to claim the win followed by Anderson, Shepler, Josh Samrov, and Tim Simonds rounding out the top five.

Dan Ballard stormed to the Sling Shot feature win, while Matthew Backus visited Jr. Sling Shot victory lane once again this season. Rob Sanford picked up the MVVDMS Modified win, while David Charczuk was the MVVDMS Sportsman winner. Ron Tollner (Experienced) and Eric Bonnie picked up Enduro wins.

During the Enduro race a scary incident happened when Erica Morrison’s car stalled and wouldn’t begin. As officials called for the red flag to allow for the driver to climb out of harms way her car was struck hard from behind by another competitor who’s hood was up blocking his view. She was removed from the car by safety officials and taken off the track in an ambulance. As of Sunday she was sore, but doing well. Our thoughts and prayers on a speedy recovery to Erica and her family.

Next Saturday night Glen Ridge returns to action with a full card of racing including a 20 lap Street Stock special. Crate Modifieds, Limited Sportsman, Pro Stock, 4-Cylinder Mini Stocks, Sling Shots, and Street Stock will be in action at the fastest ¼ mile on dirt.
